Sustainable Architecture
Spring Street
“This LEED-Gold project expertly demonstrates that a renovation can be both historically appropriate and highly sustainable. High-density spray foam insulation, Energy Star appliances and windows, WaterSense-rated plumbing fixtures, and a high-performance HVAC system are just some of the products A4 Architecture + Planning used to enhance the efficiency of this 80-year-old home.
Even more than its modern upgrades, the judges appreciated the way architect Ross S. Cann retained the home’s original character. ‘It really fits with the fabric of the neighborhood,’ one said.”

Sustainable Architecture
117 Brown Street at Brown University
For decades this former carriage house had been used as nothing more than a storage warehouse and the structure was in a deplorable state. A4 Architecture designed a new structure to closely resemble the original building but to be highly energy efficient and modern on the interior. The final construction was awarded LEED silver certification.
