A4 Architecture is pleased to have received many awards and recognition throughout the years. The latest award we have received is the “Best Adaptive Reuse Architecture Specialists – North Atlantic USA 2020” from Corporate Vision Magazine for our work on a wide variety of restoration and transformation projects of historical buildings over many years.

Each year, Corporate Vision Magazine seeks out the best that the small business community has to offer in a number of categories. The success of a small business is not measured by size or number of employees, but through providing innovative services. Companies are recognized by their reputation within their industry and their client satisfaction. We are proud to have such a high standing within these categories.

Most recently we renovated a section of the McAuley Building (a mansion originally known as Vinland Estate) in the Salve Regina Graduate Studies department. This is the fifth project we have done for Salve Regina, four of which were Adaptive Reuse nature. The University has been growing within a collection of Gilded Age mansions throughout the years, and we have enjoyed adapting the properties to fit their current functions.

We are grateful to our clients like Salve Regina, Brown, and Yale University, the Preservation Society of Newport County, the Newport Art Museum, and the International Tennis Hall of Fame to work with them to adapt their facilities to new functions over time.

Adaptive reuse is a important design tactic implemented in Newport, using existing buildings to inspire our designs and keep them vital, instead of just leaving them to waste away. By taking old buildings that no longer serve their purpose or are no longer suitable for their original role, it allows us to historically redevelop them to minimize demolition and keep the character of community intact. Increasing our environmental adaptability and preserving the dignity of these structures is one of the missions A4 Architecture strives to achieve in our work. Making old buildings more efficient and sustainable shows our innovation and helps us achieve the best solutions for each Adaptive Reuse project.
